New software opens photo doors for retailers
Maxine Miller of the Gilded Queen has a problem.

The owner of a gift and paper salon in Los Angeles, Maxine knows about the digital revolution:  how sales of digital cameras now exceed those of film cameras
and millions of people now use their cell phones to snap and send digital images to friends and family. Her problem? Until now, and despite many requests from customers, she hasn't found a way to profit from this digital imaging phenomenon.

Which is why she's so excited when talking to Angie Becerra from Personalized Expressions about of all things -- new software and photo paper.

"Customers have always loved photo invitations and announcements" says Ms. Becerra. "Lots of parents go to Sears to get a photo taken of their child and use the photo card to announce a first birthday. It's a big thing. But for everyday events, the costs and logistics of arranging a photo session have made the use of photos for invitations something of a niche product."

Angie and Maxine agree that the photos for making the invitations and announcements are readily available. "Just about everybody has a digital camera," Ms. Becerra says, "which means pictures of their kids are readily available." Maxine agrees: "I'm getting more and more requests from customers asking if I can turn their photos into invitations and announcements. My problem is that I just haven't been able to offer them anything."
Ms. Becerra demonstrates to Maxine how, with the new PE software and photo stock, she can easily turn her customer's photos into custom photo invitations and announcements. "Our software has always been superior" she says, a claim backed up by the fact that Hallmark selected the PE system after rigorous
evaluation of alternatives. "And while we've always had good imaging capabilities, with our new version we've taken it to a different level. It's now the complete package: cropping, tinting, feathering, fading, and all very easy to use. When combined with our new photo stock, the cards are amazing."

Ms. Miller seems impressed. "It really does seem very easy to use, and I can't believe the results" she says. "With this software your customer just gives you the photo and a few minutes later you can have a great custom photo invitation that looks beautiful. Yes, I can see how this would be of great benefit to my store. We could do really well with this."
